Public Outreach
Our Public Outreach programs communicate our research to a range of community groups and end users. Our programs are innovative, creative and comprehensive outreach products that create opportunities to communicate current research and demonstrate the role of plant energy biology in everyday life.
PLANT POWERSTATION

We have developed an interactive booth for Science festivals to take our research and message out there to you! The Plant POWERSTATION includes information on photosynthesis, respiration, and DNA and it includes activities such as
- strawberry DNA isolation
- cytoplasmic streaming demonstration
- smartie electrophoresis
- coming soon! fluoresence activity station
Come and visit us at the following events in 2008:
- Australian Science Festival Workshops (Canberra)
- University Open Day – University of Sydney
- Uni Expo – Univeristy of Western Australia
- Science Awareness Festival (Western Australia)
- Science in the City (Sydney)
LAB TO LAND
Lab to Land has been developed as a joint public ourteach initiative with Australian Centre for Plant Functional Genomics (ACPFG). We are currently delivering this program to a number of rural communities in South Australia as a pilot program.
LAB TO LAND aims to:
- Increase knowledge of basic plant biology
- Better understanding of traits that make plants more competitive in specific environments
- Increase knowledge of the scientific methods used to breed new types of crop plants
- Increase knowledge of how genetically modified crops are
developed, trialed and released (including history, current practices
and future possibilities)
