Plant Glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) are a large group of multifunctional proteins that catalyse the conjugation of glutathione (GSH) to a range of electrophilic substrates. GSTs appear to play an important role in protecting plants against oxidative damage and also appear to be involved in other processes such as flavonoid synthesis. A wide range of biotic and abiotic factors iduced plant GST expression. The GST superfamily of Arabidopsis thaliana contains 53 genes that can be grouped into seven subfamilies listed below.
